Development of an Automated Solid Waste Collection Device for Water Bodies: A Mathematical Approach.

This project was part of a government initiative in Bangladesh to tackle the issue of solid waste pollution in the rivers in Dhaka. The goal was to design and develop an automated system for collecting the waste from waters bodies.

The device, essentially a waste-collecting boat, was built entirely in-house, utilizing locally sourced materials and the university's labs and workshops. Every component, from the hull to the waste-collecting conveyors, was custom-designed and fabricated to ensure affordability and functionality.

The development process began with detailed calculations for every subsystem, ensuring precise measurements and operational efficiency. These calculations guided the design, which was created in SolidWorks, resulting in a comprehensive 3D model of the entire device.

Key features of the device include:
1. Remote Control Capability: The boat and its waste collection conveyor are remotely controlled, providing ease of operation and maneuverability.
2. Differential Thrust Control: Movement on water is achieved using a differential thrust control system, enabling smooth and precise navigation.
3. Waterproofing: Every component was coated with epoxy resin to ensure durability and protection against water damage.
4. Custom Data Logger: A custom data logging system was integrated to monitor all electrical signals, ensuring smooth operation and quick diagnostics.

This project provided invaluable experience in mechanical design, electrical circuit design, control system development, and hands-on fabrication. It also demonstrated how innovative engineering solutions can address environmental challenges using locally available resources.
